Cole for an engaging evening celebrating his new book\, The Last Adieu: Lafayette’s Triumphant Return\, the Echoes of Revolution\, and the Gratitude of the Republic. Join us on Thursday\, June 11 as Cole will take the stage to bring to life the remarkable 1824–1825 grand tour in which the Marquis de Lafayette — the last living major general of the Continental Army — journeyed through all twenty-four states of the young republic\, inspiring hundreds of celebrations\, parades and events in his honor. Arriving on American shores\, Lafayette himself wrote that “memories of the Revolution have come back to life” — a sentiment that feels just as resonant today as America prepares to mark its 250th anniversary. Lafayette’s tour\, and the outpouring of gratitude it inspired\, offers a powerful lens through which we can shape our own celebration of America 250. \nThe evening will then move to one of the Museum’s most extraordinary artifacts\, as Curator Kyle Sater shares the fascinating story behind one of the carriages Lafayette used during his celebrated tour of the United States\, a permanent part of the Museum’s collection. Following both talks\, guests are invited to enjoy a Q&A session\, light refreshments\, and the chance to explore the rest of the Museum at their leisure. \nDoors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the program running from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  \nAbout Ryan Cole\nRyan L. Cole is the author of Light-Horse Harry Lee: Rise and Fall of a Revolutionary Hero and The Last Adieu: Lafayette’s Triumphant Return\, the Echoes of Revolution\, and the Gratitude of the Republic. Mr. Cole has delivered lectures around the country including George Washington’s Mount Vernon\, the Indiana Historical Society\, and the Library of Congress.  His writing has appeared in the Wall Street Journal\, American Heritage\, Civil War Journal\, Indy Star\, among other publications. Knowledgeable staff will share information on the history and preservation of these iconic pieces of history through a pair of 30-minute talks. Gather at the 1st floor gallery entrance of the Studebaker National Museum gallery. These talks are free on Presidents’ Day. \nTours of the Oliver Mansion will be offered at 10:30am\, 11:30am\, 12:30pm\, 1:30pm\, and 2:30pm. These are first floor only tours.

DESCRIPTION:It’s summer camp season! \nThis three-day summer camp for kids 6 to 11 explores race cars\, fossils\, and pioneers. On the first day\, kids experience fast-paced adventures at the Studebaker National Museum as they explore historic Studebaker vehicles\, including a car that raced at the 1933 Indianapolis 500. On the second day\, kids discover the nooks and crannies of a Victorian mansion as they search for missing fossils. Day three goes back in time to the 1820s when kids interact with costume interpreters for a look a pioneer life at the Navarre Cabin. Conducted by The History Museum and the Studebaker National Museum\, the camp is $120 or $100 for members. There is a $10 discount per sibling.  \nFinancial needs-based scholarships are available. DESCRIPTION:Its Summer Camp time! The History Museum and the Studebaker National Museum are teaming up this summer to offer History Detectives Camp! During this three-day camp\, kids ages 8-12 will spend their first day at the Studebaker National Museum learning what it was like to travel in the 1800s through hands-on activities\, games\, and artifact exploration. Days two and three will be spent with The History Museum searching for technology-related artifacts in the Oliver Mansion and exploring mastodon and mammoth fossils. \nHistory Detectives Camp will have four sessions throughout the summer:\nSession 1: June 18-20\, 2024 (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.)\nSession 2: June 25-27\, 2024 (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.)\nSession 3: July 16-18\, 2024 (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.)\nSession 4: July 23-25 (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.) \nFor more information click here. \nFinancial need-based scholarships are available for the camp. Join Programming & Content Coordinator\, Lauren Moss\, as she shares information on the conservation and preservation of these iconic pieces of history through a pair of 30-minute talks. Guests will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the carriages while simultaneously learning the history behind them and how they became Studebaker property. \nThese talks will take place in the 1st floor gallery entrance of the museum with the first talk lasting from 11-11:30am and the second from 1-1:30pm. \nThis event is included with free admission in honor of President’s Day!

Learn more about the fascinating story of the #34 car\, including a special presentation with Archivist Andy Beckman in the Wiekamp Auditorium and go “behind the ropes” with Curator Kyle Sater to get a closer look at the vehicle. Period artifacts will also be on display as part of a special “Collections Corner” program and exhibits will be open for members to explore.
